UNC Anesthesiology is committed to providing the best possible care for our patients. Our team includes more than 300 individuals, including faculty, residents, fellows, CRNAs, anesthesia techs, nurse practitioners, researchers, and support staff. We provide a full spectrum of expert anesthesia care to over 60,000 patients of all ages each year—outpatient surgery, invasive inpatient procedures, elective operations, and emergencies. We provide pre-operative care, care after surgery in the intensive care unit, and acute and chronic pain management.

In addition to providing outstanding clinical care, the Department is a national leader in education and research, striving to improve standards of care. Along with teaching our residents and medical students the specialty of anesthesiology, through educational outreach programs, we educate the medical community on the highest standards of anesthetic care.
