UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center scientists and care providers work side by side with a shared commitment to provide today’s best care and tomorrow’s best hope. We are poised to break cancer’s grip on the lives of our patients and their families by accelerating discoveries that deepen our understanding of the implications of this disease – from the molecular to societal level – and translating scientific discovery into lifesaving therapies.

Survivor of triple negative breast cancer

Lori P. – Durham, NC

After being told she had triple negative breast cancer—an incredibly aggressive form of the disease—Lori knew she was in for the fight of her life. During her treatment at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center she always felt that her medical team “had her.” She felt at the center of dynamic team that was fighting to save her life. After months of treatment, she’s now cancer-free and able to live her best life.

We will

Invest in People to Find Cures

Our battle against cancer is only as effective as the people we enlist to fight it. We must continue to cultivate our leaders in research, education, prevention and patient care, enhance strategic efforts to retain top faculty, and recruit the next generation of life-saving scientists and clinicians.

Venture to Seek Scientific Solutions

We must be empowered to take bold paths, investing in pioneering research ventures that can alter the course of cancer research, change cancer treatment in the future, and help uncover cures. We are leading efforts in cellular immunotherapy, cancer genetics, academic drug discovery, and big data. These are our “big bets”—research areas that can affect multiple disease types and provide the greatest competitive advantage across the national landscape.

Translate Research into Results

We have the ability to convert lab breakthroughs into novel clinical trials much more rapidly than other institutions. We must strengthen these capabilities to ensure that our patients have access to more personalized, more advanced and more compassionate treatments. We must also continue to provide holistic support and address the needs of all patients and families throughout their entire cancer journey.

Unite Across Population Sciences to Beat Cancer

Cancer treatment and prevention goes beyond the research lab. As a global leader in population sciences, we must continue to use our understanding of social, behavioral, genetic, epidemiological and surveillance research to champion practices and policies that improve cancer prevention.
